How to repair the back door lock of your Land Rover Defender?
The main reason of this failure is because the wire used for the door locker is really weak. Day after day the plastic protection will crack and oxidation will make a bad connection or even cut the wire on the pinched part of it.
To replace this wire you have to remove the plastic door panel assembly by unscrewing the two screws of the handle, the screw of the door opening handle, the window opener manivel and the small plastic part covering the locker switch. After that you can remove the plastic door pannel. For the glass manivel you have to go in with a small screwdriver to unlock the metalic locker. For the small plastic cover of the door locker you have to gently push it up ( not like in the video) because you risk to break it.
After this you need to locate the problem on the wire and repair it with a more solid wire and protection. You can use 1.5mm2 or 2.5mm2 it should be better than the actual one. Use a soldering iron to make a good connection and then protect the repair with a good heat shrink sleeving.
When it’s done your door will then open & close when you press the locking button of your command. Your can add some oil in the locking mechanism to help it a bit before putting back in place the plastic door panel.
So, there we are with this easy DIY back door lock repair.
